From Cruise Port:    Bay of Islands

Departing from your tender wharf, our first destination is the Kawiti Glowworm Caves where a local Maori guide will lead you through underground caverns to see the glowworms and tell you how the caves came to be found.

See amazing cave formations such as stalactites and stalagmites, and of course the highlight being the thousands of star-like 'lights' covering the cave ceiling. These clever bugs use their lights to attract insects to fly into their 'fishing lines' - an impressive sight not to be missed.

After the cave tour it is a short drive to Kawakawa, location of the world famous "Hundertwasser Toilets" one of the few public toilets seen as an international work of art, designed by the expatriate Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

We then drive north to the Puketi Forest. This is a 15,000 hectare forest which contains magnificent stands of Kauri and a rich ecological diversity. Around 12.30pm we stop at a lovely Cafe/Bakery where you can purchase your lunch - there is a wide variety of choices.

The next stop is the Makana Chocolate Factory in Kerikeri. This is a boutique chocolate factory where you can watch the making of chocolates, taste a few samples and of course shop for some delicious treats. You will also be able to visit the Kauri Workshop next door which has crafts and collectables for sale.

You will then visit the famous horse shoe waterfalls, Haruru Falls. These falls are located in a hidden valley on the beautiful and peaceful Waitangi River. The last stop of the day is the Waitangi look-out Loop. This is a final chance to take in the stunning views over Waitangi and the Bay of Islands, before your transportation back to the wharf or Paihia if you would prefer to have a look around.

How many people usually go on this tour?

We use a range of minibuses and mid size coaches up to 35 persons on some days

Our ship is departing at 4pm, can we still do the tour?

Yes, it should be OK as we adjust the tour start and end times to match the ship. This will be confirmed when we accept your reservation.

Why do I need to purchase a seat for my infant?

We have set a nominal charge of $1 for infants as under NZ transport rules each tour vehicle is only allowed to carry a certain number of people. Please purchase a ticket for every one in your party.

How will I find my tour guide ?

When you arrive at the Waitangi Wharf, just walk straight ahead from the pier [do not take any of the coaches parked on the left side] and you will see the Yacht Clubhouse, our staff will be waiting outside the clubhouse and our tour minibuses will be parked on the grass behind the building. Our staff and vehicles usually only arrive 30 minutes prior to the tour start time.

If I come ashore early what can I do until the tour departs?

There is a pleasant walk around the coast of about 10 minutes which will take you to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Museum, this opens at 9am so you could spend an hour looking around, the entry fee is $50. You may prefer to do this after our tour as you have more time. You could also take the free shuttle bus into Paihia [a 5 minute drive] and visit the craft market and shops.

Do we stop in Kerikeri town for shopping?

No, we only drive through the town to visit the Makana Chocolate factory.

My cruise ship says they will tender us to Paihia, will you meet us there?

Yes, on certain days when there is more than one cruise ship in the Bay of Islands, passengers may be taken to the wharf at Paihia instead of Waitangi. We are aware of this and our guides and vehicles will be waiting at the end of the Paihia wharf, adjacent to the information office [just past the large Marlin statue].
